Is It Worth Buying?
The clearest case for purchasing is if you have a specific stay planned at a GHA property within the next 24 months where cash room rates or on-property spending are meaningful. Buying D$1,000 for US$850 to use against a US$1,000+ hotel bill is a guaranteed 15% saving on that spend — equivalent to a 15% discount on your room rate.
The case is weaker if you are buying speculatively without a stay in mind. D$ are hotel credit, not points — you can only spend them at GHA properties, and only properties that participate. If your travel pattern doesn't regularly include GHA portfolio hotels, the credit risks going unused.
